The Sensokan
The Sensokan Dojo "School of War" Indianapolis is a very unique martial arts school by todays standards. In fact it could be said that it is the antithesis of the modern commericalized martial arts school. There are no children, no multi-colored belts, no tournaments or seminars, and there is no tuition.
The Sensokan Dojo is headed for the last 30 years under the direction of Ted Hanulak Sensei, a former decorated police officer, who continues to pass on the lost tradition of true Japanese martial arts and Zen training to those who are worthy.
The Dojo
The dojo resides within the Sensei's personal residence. It is a full size tradtional dojo/training area, bathroom/ changing area, office for meetings, and an outdoor training area weather permitting.
An interview with the Sensei is required to be accepted into the Sensokan. Visit the Contact page for more information of joining.

The Training
We teach the Japanese style of "Senso-Ryu" (war style) developed by Richard Behrens Shihan in the mid 1900's from various Japanese arts and disciplines studied during his lifetime.
The art of Senso-Ryu consists of: JUJUTSU - Empty handed art of grappling, joint locks, submissions, throws, and striking.
AIKI-JUJUTSU - An advanced form of Jujutsu incorporating "Aiki" movement principles, using the opponents strength against them. Focusing both on single and multiple attackers.
KENJUTSU - Art of swordsmanship, training with bokken (wooden Katana & Wakizashi sword), Iaito (unsharpened sword), and Shinken Katana (sharp sword).
We also train with the Jo staff, tanto (knife), and practice firearm disarmament and retention.
ZAZEN - Zen meditation for the cultivation of mind.

The Tuition
There is no monetary charge for classes as we are a traditional dojo and not a business. All training equipment is provided by the Sensokan. Money is never accepted in payment or donation.
Only the personal uniform is bought by the student, outside of the dojo as we do not sell anything. This is explained during the interview.
